STUDENT NEWS
OCTOBER 2003
|
Dear
Student,
Thankyou
for choosing to study with ICI College. I'd like to bring you up to
date with what's happening.
ICI
College has now relocated to Tasmania. Tasmania is an ideal place for
our College to be based for a number of reasons. Many of you have already
found that your assignments and projects are being turned around much
quicker than previously. We no longer outsource any of our work- everything
is done in-house. This has helped us to keep the costs down and improve
our efficiencies. Here's what some of you are now saying about the new
ICI College-
“Thank
you for your very welcome letter. All vestige of panic melted away…
…Thank you very much for taking the time to write and for giving me
assurances. Thanks also for doing such a brilliant job of administrating
all the parts of my courses.”
L.
C. (Current Student SA)
"You
guys are doing a great job- thanks - the turnaround and service is
excellent. Thank you very much."
R. B. (Current
Student ACT)
We have
several students who have completed nearly every ICI subject necessary
to earn their BA degree. I was encouraged in talking recently with a
pastor in Western Australia who has been studying consistently with
ICI for several years. He is just one or two subjects away from graduating
with a BA in Bible/Theology. He ministers in an isolated town of around
1,000 people and leads a church of around 25 people. His ICI studies
had been his lifeline to ministry input.
Another
student in NSW is on the staff of a very large church and has just completed
his last subject to also earn his B.A. in Bible/Theology. And several
students have just recently received their Training Certificates in
Christian Service and Ministry.
ACCREDITATION
We
are currently working through the necessary processes to gain Australian
accreditation for our courses. We have letters from most State Ministry
of Education Departments stating that they recognise Global/ICI University
but that it is still up to individual higher education providers to
determine whether they accept foreign degrees for transfer credits.
But this condition also applies to other Australian institutional degrees.
I recently heard of a student graduating from an Australian Bible College
with their VETAB approved ministry degree who was refused entry into
another Higher Education institution to undertake further Theological
studies because their degree was deemed to be below par. This illustrates
that accreditation does not necessarily mean what some people assume
it means.
The best
accreditation is what the student is able to do, and be, as a
result of their studies. ICI courses are developed to minister not just
educate. They carry extremely high accreditation in the USA, which is
recognised around the world. But more importantly, they have a ministry
component to each of them which no Government accreditation agency could
evaluate. Here's what one of our students recently said-
"Studying
this course on Apologetics has caused a phenomenal growth experience
in me as a Christian. I have learnt more in this course than I have
done in the eighteen years as a committed Christian. It was one thing
to have faith to believe with some evidences to back it up, but having
completed the course, my faith is stronger and I have far more evidences
to confidently argue the truth of my faith. I am more concrete in
my faith. I know I am stronger and more confident explaining and sharing
my faith, with non believers as well as believers. I know that I will
be able to encourage the believer much more with the material I have
learnt."

COSTS
The
costs of running any College are always a challenge. ICI College is
now being run by a full-time volunteer, Sari Kuronen, who receives a
small honorarium for her dedicated work. I serve as the honourary President.
While other institutions are reviewing their academic and tuition fees
with a view to increasing them, we have taken the step to contain our
fees and in some cases even reduce them slightly. ICI College now offers
excellent value for money for Bible/Theology/Ministry education and
training. The costs associated with earning an award from ICI College
should really be thought of as an investment into your own life. If
you have not studied with us for while, we encourage you to once again
set your goals, and pick up your study programme.
LEARNING CENTRES
Several
churches are running ICI Learning Centres where they give their people
the opportunity to engage in studies together which can carry credit
toward higher awards. Learning Centres generally utilise the Christian
Service courses which are usually self-contained (no further text books
required). Each subject can carry elective credit toward a degree.
The benefits
for establishing a Learning Centre is that it provides corporate (group)
motivation for those who may find independent study too great a challenge.
The group can work through each subject at their own pace within the
time-frame allocated. The church receives a group discount on each subject
which can be used to raise some much needed revenue. All the administration
and marking is done by our office, so there's really no need for the
Learning Centre to take up too much valuable administrative time at
the local church. Pastors now planning their discipleship strategy for
next year might like to consider to commencing an ICI Learning Centre.

MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT
It
is vital for those in, or entering, ministry to keep themselves sharp
through deliberate study of God's Word. In industry it is fairly typical
for a company to put their staff through constant training and development.
Local church boards should consider sponsoring their pastors or leaders
to undertake a systematic course of study through ICI.
ICI College
offers a number of Advanced Certificates which are all Degree level
studies and can build toward a degree. Every leader would benefit from
undertaking an Advanced Certificate in The Pentecostal
Message which includes the following subjects: Acts, Corinthians,
Pneumatology, A Biblical Survey of Worship, and, A Strategy for Church
Growth.

We'd love to send you our latest Prospectus which outlines our courses
and awards. If you have any queries at all please contact us. We want
to serve you as you seek to serve the Lord.
